25 Days with Mary: Day 7

This Jesus

Who is Jesus?

Mary’s very personal role in Jesus’ birth was appointed to her just a breath or two back, and Gabriel continued to talk. The question of how this could be had to push at least a little bit against this new information being shared from God’s obedient messenger as she went from trying to process logically to listening faithfully; her whirling thoughts running amuck as the angel’s words kept coming. Listening hard with each fresh word and trying just as hard to damper all of the questions from her heart, she heard more about the Jesus she was to give birth to in the months ahead.

This Jesus

He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Luke 1:32-33

Not Greek to Mary

Our Jewish girl knew of this Jesus she was chosen to mother. These things were not Greek to her, but rather Hebrew!

  • He shall be great!
  • He shall be called, because He is, the Son of the Highest
  • He will be given his father, David’s, throne
  • He shall reign over Jacob’s house forever
  • His kingdom will have no end

Our Child’s Future

Has every mother looked into her child’s face and wondered what the future held for her baby? I think, yes, and I know I sure have. I still do-even as recently as this morning I was talking to a family member and wondering what the Lord has for my youngest. Mary got insight from God Himself who her son would be, and the answer is God Himself! He would be a great ruler and a forever King.

Do you think her knowledge base of Old Testament scripture started filling in while Gabriel spoke of this Jesus? Was she beginning to understand what was going on? Did the lightbulb between what she’d learned all her life about a coming savior and a virgin birth and what she’d just been told light up in her head?

This virgin?

That Jesus?

This life?

God’s Living Word

Mary didn’t have the New Testament to read, but just as God’s living Word jumps off the pages as we read it and His Spirit unwraps it in our hearts and minds, God’s Word was coming alive in Mary’s heart too, and in her womb.

This woman.

That Jesus.

This life!

YES! Friends, YOU & I, this woman. That Jesus and THIS life. I know this year has been the pits in a lot of ways for most of us, but I’m here to tell you, God’s living Word is STILL LIVING. Every woman of God has an opportunity like Mary, to respond to God’s Word, make room for Jesus and live THIS LIFE for Him.

Oh, you may have the same question today as Mary did that day…how? And that’s a logical question-one we will get to tomorrow but for today, let’s think about this week so far with Mary.

What’s your name?

Mary: chosen, favored, loved. Do you know Jesus? What’s your name?

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

Look into a mirror and talk to God.

This woman, that Jesus, this life: you are chosen, favored and loved.

For women at home

He calmed the storm to a

whisper, and the waves of the

sea were hushed.

Psalm 107:29
