Jehovah Ezer, My Help

Our Help

Our soul waits for the LORD;
He is our help and our shield.

Psalm 33:20

This isn’t what I was planning to write today. It isn’t the name of God I have already prepared images and scripture for. It is not what I thought was going to be here, and it isn’t what I’ve tried all day to write.

Now, hours into the night here it is 8:26 PM, and the Lord has given me peace to write about Jehovah Ezer.

Jehovah

Jehovah, I AM.

Ezer

Ezer, Help.

The Lord is my Help

The Lord, The I AM, is my Help.

Help, as in times of hopelessness, of deep despair or danger. Look no further than the latest trouble in our country and around the world. That fits: trouble and despair.

With no stuttering, I could start naming people I know-dearest friends included- who are in the throes of their own desperation, and I’d run surely run out of time and space before names.

We need help. Divine help.

Divine Help

The times I’ve cried out for help, I needed God’s help.

Oftentimes, any help would be nice: doing the dishes, washing the car, cleaning up the family room, carrying a heavy item, but the times my cry for help comes from deep down, it’s full of anguish and desperation. It’s in those times not any old help will do; then, I need divine help.

I bet it’s the same for you.

Grace

God is our help and He gives us His helping grace. Hallelujah! What an opportunity: The throne of GRACE!

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16

Our Need

I’m reminded of a story my new daughter-in-love recently shared. One day she noticed her a hefty jar containing a large sum of money, all in coins. When she asked her dad about it he told her it was for emergencies; if ever she needed money, she knew it was there.

Fast forward to an impromptu shopping trip with her friend where she fell short on cash. Suddenly she remembered what her father told her, the money was all there if she ever needed it, and when better than girl time at the mall?

I’m not entirely sure how she managed the weight of her need, but I am sure it was a lot heavier going out than coming home.

God’s Grace

Imagine her dad’s face to realize she took ALL of the ’emergency change’ for one afternoon of fun shopping. Of course, he didn’t mean she could have all of it, and had he been home he likely wouldn’t have agreed the mall with a friend was an emergency need-well, not in his heart, anyway.

Nevertheless, his daughter had no issues digging into that jar confidently and excited her dad had left it for just a time as this. And she had good reason, her dad had never (has never) withheld any good thing from his little girl.

Sufficient Grace

God’s grace is bit like this. Yet, He DOES intend on giving us the full jar-or all that we need, His sufficient grace.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Grace. Mercy. Help.

Friends, my heart has been quite heavy the past couple of days, for our nation, for my family, and for my friends. Right now as I consider Jehovah Ezer, GOD IS MY HELP, I’m incredibly thankful.

Divine Grace, Mercy and Help; go boldly before the throne of grace and receive the only help, and all the help, you need right now. He is Jehovah Ezer, God of Help.

Divine help. Jehovah Ezer. Worthy is Your Name!

I’ll meet you there.

As you pray, listen to the beautiful praise song and one of my favorites, You Are My All in All: My All in All. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLilYpRAuU4
